As <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/03\/26\/apple-discontinues-the-mac-pro\/\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\"><em>9to5Mac<\/em> notes<\/a>, the computer no longer appears in the lineup of Macs on Apple&#8217;s website or in its storefront. That means at least for now, the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/computing\/apple-mac-studio-m4-max-review-a-creative-powerhouse-123000265.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\">Mac Studio<\/a> is the Apple&#8217;s top-of-the-line professional computer.<\/p>\n<p>The current version of the Mac Pro <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"no-affiliate-link link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/newsroom\/2019\/06\/apple-unveils-powerful-all-new-mac-pro-and-groundbreaking-pro-display-xdr\/\" data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\">was introduced<\/a> in 2019, with a distinct cheese-grater design, Intel chips and a bevy of easily-accessible expansion slots. Apple released the computer as a make-good for several years of inadequately meeting the performance needs of professional Mac users, but its uncontested time at the top of the company&#8217;s lineup was short-lived. A year later in 2020, Apple began <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apple-silicon-m1-mac-181040846.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\">transitioning to its custom M-series Arm chips<\/a>, proving Macs could be more powerful and power-efficient by abandoning Intel entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Apple eventually updated the Mac Pro to the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apple-announces-m2-ultra-chip-with-double-the-cpu-and-gpu-cores-171204873.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\">M2 Ultra<\/a> without updating the computer&#8217;s design, but by then the writing was on the wall. The far smaller Mac Studio, <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apple-mac-studio-184309872.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\">introduced in 2022<\/a>, also supported the new chip, and it&#8217;s been <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/computing\/apples-new-mac-studio-comes-with-the-long-awaited-m3-ultra-chip-140005216.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\">updated since then<\/a> while the Mac Pro has languished. <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2025-11-16\/apple-s-iphone-road-map-iphone-air-2-iphone-18-mac-pro-future-tesla-carplay-mi1q4l2o\" data-i13n=\"cpos:9;pos:1\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em> reported<\/a> Apple was planning to retire the Mac Pro in November 2025, so it&#8217;s not all that surprising the company quietly pulled the plug only a few months later.<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s effort to cater to professionals, creatives and anyone with a chunk of change to drop on a fast computer lives on through the Mac Studio, and the recently announced <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/computing\/accessories\/apple-studio-display-xdr-review-expensive-but-theres-no-monitor-like-it-120018426.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:10;pos:1\">Studio Display XDR<\/a>, itself a replacement for the Pro Display XDR Apple announced for the 2019 Mac Pro.
