Unbound&#8217;s unannounced games will be fully supported and distributed by South Korean publisher Shift Up, which is led by CEO Hyung-Tae Kim.<\/p>\n<p>Mikami is an icon of Japanese horror as the director of <em>Resident Evil<\/em>, its 2002 remake and <em>Resident Evil 4<\/em>, as well as a founder of PlatinumGames and Tango Gameworks. Tango was responsible for The Evil Within series, <em>Ghostwire Tokyo<\/em> and <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em>. Shift Up recently developed the hit action game <em>Stellar Blade<\/em>, with Kim as director.<\/p>\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Even with an <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PTColDTq19M\">adorably grotesque introduction video<\/a>, it&#8217;s unclear exactly what Unbound is working on at the moment, but the studio is targeting the global PC and console market. Its concepts involve plenty of monsters, as is tradition.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Consider even the surface-level possibilities here: The campy horror of Resident Evil blended with the melodramatic beauty of <em>Stellar Blade. <\/em>The frenzy of <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em> amped up by the anime stylings of <em>Goddess of Victory: Nikke<\/em>. <em>The Evil Within III<\/em>, but make it sexy. These are jokes, but the sentiment remains \u2014 this partnership makes a lot of sense and it&#8217;ll be exciting to see what shakes out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe we can respect each other as creators and make games together,\u201d Mikami said in a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/shiftup.co.kr\/eng\/news\/blog.php?ptype=view&amp;idx=414&amp;page=1&amp;code=blog_eng\">Shift Up blog post<\/a> about the deal. \u201cAnd I think with Hyung-Tae, we can even enjoy the hard parts&#8230;. Seeing my own vision and ideals come into focus like this, and finding someone whose direction aligns so closely is something I\u2019ve rarely experienced before in my career. I hope we keep building together for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also heartening to see stability for Mikami&#8217;s new studio. His previous team, Tango Gameworks, was acquired by Microsoft in 2021, and Mikami left in 2023 after the release of <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em>. <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/arkane-austin-and-tango-gameworks-have-been-shut-down-183913558.html\">Microsoft shuttered Tango<\/a> in 2024 during a period of <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/layoffs-are-sucking-the-joy-out-of-video-games--this-weeks-gaming-news-174541450.html\">mass game industry layoffs<\/a>, and its remaining team was eventually sold to Krafton.
