The designer played a pivotal role in the look and feel of Apple&#8217;s products since Jony Ive <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-06-27-jony-ive-lovefrom.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\">left the company in 2019<\/a>, and now he\u2019ll be taking his talents to Meta.<\/p>\n<p>Dye will reportedly work under Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth as the head of a new studio that will oversee the design of hardware, software and AI products. The studio will also include former Apple designer Billy Sorrentino, Meta\u2019s interface design lead Joshua To, an industrial design team led by Pete Bristol, and metaverse design and art teams led by Jason Rubin, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@zuck\/post\/DR0Wsy0EhCP?xmt=AQF0br27Jz8KJgqC5jkEdjV3nvOGsokta6g3eNEAeT_P1Q\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\">announced on Threads<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new studio will bring together design, fashion, and technology to define the next generation of our products and experiences,\u201d Zuckerberg shared in the post. \u201cOur idea is to treat intelligence as a new design material and imagine what becomes possible when it is abundant, capable and human-centered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apple, meanwhile, is replacing Dye with Stephen Lemay, <em>Bloomberg<\/em> reports, a senior designer at the company who&#8217;s worked on all of the company\u2019s interfaces since 1999. Those will likely include future versions of the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/wearables\/meta-ray-ban-display-review-chunky-frames-with-impressive-abilities-193127070.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\">Meta Ray-Ban Display<\/a> and its Neural Band accessory.<\/p>\n<p>Dye isn&#8217;t the first designer Apple has lost to a competitor. Evans Hankey, the company\u2019s former head of industrial design, <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apple-hardware-design-leader-evans-hankey-leaves-155100957.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:9;pos:1\">left Apple in 2022<\/a> to work with Ive. Hankey is now one of several former Apple employees building <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openai-buys-jony-ives-design-startup-for-65-billion-173356962.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:10;pos:1\">OpenAI&#8217;s upcoming hardware device<\/a>. Dye joining Meta is particularly interesting in this case because Apple is rumored to be working on products that will bring the company in even closer competition to the social media giant.
